FIRST SEVEN SWORDS REVIEW

The Wu Jing message boards have the first review of Tsui Hark's SEVEN SWORDS and it's as negative as you'd expect the first reviews for this movie to be. Critics, huh? They're always complaining about something.

One thing that's weird is I didn't think the movie was being screened until Venice?

Hi Grady --

Can confirm that SEVEN SWORDS will get theatrical releases in Malaysia and some other Asian territories (e.g., Hong Kong) prior to its Venice Film Festival screening. Also, that while its official release date for Malaysia is 29th July, the movie's official Malaysian premiere will be on the 28th and I can imagine that there would be press screenings/previews before that earlier date as well.

Hi again Grady --

Just saw the following on Sanney's Hong Kong Entertainment News in Review site:-

"Seven Swords" premieres

So, sounds like the movie's world premiere actually was in Beijing this past Monday (i.e., July 18th).

That's too bad. I really did think the producers were going to try to do an international premiere in Venice, and then roll out to Asia afterwards, or secure a US distribution deal before releasing the film anywhere. This dramatically decreases the chances we'll see SEVEN SWORDS get a theatrical release in the US.

One day there will be global strategies for Asian films, and then we will all buy the world a Coke.

Actually I just saw Seven Swords and thought it was quite good. Most critics don't like old school martial arts films anyway. This film was awesome.

Check my review on my site.
