GOLDEN ARMOR DESIGN SKETCHES

MonkeyPeaches has posted design sketches from Zhang Yimou's now-underway period film, CITY OF GOLDEN ARMOR. One thing you can say for sure: this won't be an ugly movie.

Let's hope it's not a boring one as well. As much as tried to like Hero and The House of Flying Daggers, lengthy running times, poor plotting, stupid conceits (oh three different stories? wow), made that difficult for me.

I can forgive a poorly plotted or acted film if it has good fighting, but to have pretentions like Zhang Yimou does, he better bloody well live up to them.

Those 'boring' movies you mentioned are simply not for everybody, but for those who appreciate something more cerebral than the typical mindless kungfu revenge flicks . Golden Armor is based on the famous Chinese novel "Thunderstorm," and will heavy on plot. This will not be your cup of tea, so just avoid it and you won't be disappointed. I'm looking forward to Zhang's new film, and hope he continues making these period epics.
