OLD ZHANG ZIYI MOVIE BECOMES NEW ZHANG ZIYI MOVIE
Arclight Films has created an Asian films subsidiary called Easterlight Films and the first movie they've picked up is Zhang Ziyi and Joan Chen's JASMINE WOMEN. The movie, about three generations of Chinese women starting in the 1930's, sees both actresses playing several different roles. It premiered at the 2004 Tokyo International Film Festival in 2004 but has since been recut and has not been screened anywhere else.

Hey Grady,
Actually, we showed the film at the Hawaii International Film Festival, also in 2004, and had the U.S. premiere for it. We had numerous requests afterwards from other festivals, but for some reason, it never played anywhere else.

I had heard some buzz about Jasmine Women some time back, but it seems to have disappeared into the information black hole. I almost thought that they never finished the film. Hope that it will be distributed soon, it seems quite promising.

Jasmine Women was shown at a couple of festivals 2005, in Korea at the Gwangju International Film Festival, and in New Dehli at the Festival of Asian Cinema.
Also, it was premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival a few months before it was shown in Tokyo.
It's being shown on Sunday for the EFM at the Berlin Film Festival.
