PLEASE COME BACK, WE HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT
The shenanigans involving Thailand's Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand have been long and involved and I get tired just thinking about them. You can read all about them here and here and then you will be exhausted, too.
And now...more developments. The last time we saw the FNFA it was without a president. Even nominee, Chaiwat Theaweewongsangthong, withdrew his nomination in the hopes that former head, Somsak Techaratanaprasert, would return. However, Somsak contacted him personally and asked him to be president if every other candidate refused to take the position.
Well, they did and he did.The former president said he was too busy, and some of the nominees withdrew their nominations for various reasons. And so now, Chaiwat Theaweewongsangthong is the president of FNFA.
And what about Somsak? What's his message to the three major production companies that resigned from the FNFA in protest over his leadership?
"Please come back, we have a new president."
(Thanks to Wisekwai for updates on this byzantine situation)

My pleasure.
There's more goodness from the new prez in a recent posting about the state of Thailand's animation biz.
But what I figured you'd find really be interested in was this quote from producer Boyd Kosiyabong: "Apart from lowering taxes on the film industry, if the authorities want to support Thai animations, one thing they can do is set a quota for Thai films screened in domestic cinemas. That is one way domestic film-makers can survive."
Boyd is also a singer-songwriter, but with a stance like calling for a quota system in the Thai film industry, I think he should shift to lobbying full time.
