GEORGE CLOONEY = TAKASHI SHIMURA?
For some reason I can handle an MUMBAI MBBS remake - it may even be good, although I'll never get over the weirdness of saying "Chris Tucker will play the role originally played by Sanjay Dutt" - but a SEVEN SAMURAI remake with Donnie Yen just sounds lame. Wasn't SEVEN SWORDS a SEVEN SAMURAI remake with Donnie Yen?
Apparently Donnie has spoken with the Weinsteins about the remake, and his management company is spreading the rumor that the budget would be at $100 million (although how they came up with that number without a script is a mystery to me). And they claim that Zhang Ziyi will be invited to join the cast and so will George Clooney.
And there's been speculation - by the Hong Kong press, not by anyone else - that George Clooney would play the role of Kambei (Takashi Shimura), leader of the seven samurai

Good Lord! The closest George Clooney and the Weinsteins should come to "Seven Samurai" is the foreign films shelf at their local video store.

How come you have a color picture from ikiru? I thought it was shot in B&W;?
Looks like it was colored by the same dudes that did reefer madness.
I could care less about munnabhai, but this is just crazy. I hope it sucks more balls than the seven swords.

Anything with Donnie Yen in it should be regarded with suspicion.

I understood that it was the Weinstein's who discussed this idea with Donnie. Not that it was something he took to Harv. And that was from one of his interviews. So he's excited about the possibility! Leave the man alone. He could play Kyuzo. He basically has in Sky and Chu Zaonan. It's the rest that sounds world-shatteringly ghastly.
Terrible idea no matter how they change the story or what aspect of the story they concentrate on. But Clooney in there sounds just ridiculous enough to be something the Weinstein's might be considering. And there's spec that Ziyi would do a 'Shino' role and that that part would be made larger and be the emphasized plotline.
Thank God it's all spec. Die stupid idea! Die!
