HOW SPECIAL IS KILL ZONE?
When the Weinstein Company announced that their first Dragon Dynasty disc would be SHA PO LANG there was good news and bad news. The bad news was that it had been retitled KILL ZONE and sported some incredibly korny kung fu kover art. But the good news was that it was going to be a two-disc set which would include a veritable treasure trove of special features including:
- Commentary with Donnie Yen and Hong Kong Expert Bey Logan
- Born to be Bad: Interview with Martial Arts Legend Sammo Hung
- First Amongst Equals: Featurette with Star and Action Director Donnie Yen
- Echoes of Darkness: Interview with co-star Simon Yam
- A Dragon Rising: Interview with SPL villain Jackie Wu
- A Man Apart: Interview with Director Wilson Yip
- Never Seen Before Footage
- SPL Making Of Documentary
- Breaking News: Footage from Hong Kong Press Conference for launch of SPL
- Trailer Gallery
- Master in Motion: Martial Arts demonstration by Wu Shu impressario Jacki Wu
Despite calling Wu Jing an "impresario" that's a pretty impressive list. But now Screaming Mimi has sent in an email she received from HKflix and here it is:
Valued Customers-
Thanks for your pre-order of the new "SPL" ("Killzone") DVD at HKFlix.com! We are writing to inform you of some changes that have been made to this DVD since you made your purchase. We were notified of these changes today by the manufacturer:
1. The main audio commentary track may or may not include Donnie Yen.
But it will still feature Bey Logan as previously advertised.
2. The "Never Seen Before Footage" feature has been cancelled.
3. The "Breaking News: Footage from Hong Kong Press Conference" feature has been cancelled.
4. The "Martial Arts Demonstration By Jackie Wu" feature has been cancelled.
5. The following two new "Anatomy Of A Scene" Featurettes have been
added:
a) "Alleycats" (With optional commentary by action director, Donnie Yen, and Bey Logan)
b) "Challenge of the Masters"
Both featurettes are supposed to have optional audio commentary by Donnie Yen AND Bey Logan, but this is subject to change.
The artwork will also be changed, and will be updated on our site within the next few days. All the other features previously advertised are still correct."
I'm sure everyone is breathing a sigh of relief that they're still getting the Bey Logan commentary.

You know, the "Dragon Dynasty" title is increasingly starting to irritate me. It's like they picked two random "Chinese-ey" words and stuck them together. Might as well have called it fricking "Empire Szechuan."

Maybe 'Top Ramen' would have been better? Dried noodles and not much else. With flavor packet that may or may not contain flavoring.

Who's Jackie Wu? I know there's a dude in SPL named Wu Jing, who's been occasionaly referred to as Jacky Wu, but this Jackie Wu fella is all new to me. Perhaps he's related to the guy named Eric Cheng who was in the Miramax version of Zu Warriors, he looked more like an Ekin to me though.
I also agree with Mr. Austin, their strategy just seems to further ghettoize Asian genre films in America. The 'Dragon Dynasty' just sounds cheesy and disrespectful to the films. I don't put every Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai film on the same mental shelf, so why should they occupy the same space at Best Buy?

You're kidding right? Does everyone just gush about this guy and not actually listen to his commentaries?
For the past 2 years at least, he has been using his commentaries to continually defend Harvey Weinstein and his actions and slamming down those against him. This is way before he was officially employed by Harvey for his new company.
The guy is a puppet and a sell out. Those aren't things that I keep on a high profile when buying discs.

Have you seen the mission? I believe thats the film Jacky Wu was on. Wu Jing in spl is the talkless guy who fights donnie near the end.
Already own the HK version, happy with my copy.
