NO DONNIE IN SPL 2
A sharp-eyed reader (I love these guys) has sent in a translated article from Apple Daily saying that while there have been rumors that Donnie Yen will star in SHA PO LANG 2 (or is that KILLZONE 2?) directed by Wilson Yip, none of these facts are, in fact, true.
There will be a sequel to the joint-locking, cartilage-crunching SHA PO LANG but it won't star Donnie and it won't be directed by Wilson Yip. It'll star Simon Yam, Sammo Hung, and Wu Jing. This makes more sense, if you've seen the movie.
Donnie Yen will star in the new Wilson Yip movie with Louis Koo, but it won't be SHA PO LANG 2.

Maybe it was only a flesh wound?

For many sequels, their connection with their original are only their names, not their stories......
For example, the story of CHIN GEI BIN 2 is not related to CHIN GEI BIN. (Both movies star Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung, though)

I mean for many sequels of Hong Kong movies.

It makes sense if it's a prequel. Calling it SPL2 without Wilson Yip? I don't know if that makes sense, but I guess it's been done.
Can't wait for the other SPL2. It's off to Macao this time out.

That's got to be the prequel the producers were talking about when SPL did TIFF last year ... it's supposed to revolve around Wu Jing's character, though at the time Wilson was supposed to direct it.

Ermm... Grady, the first link you posted clearly states that it's a sequel in theme only. Besides 2/3 of the characters you mentioned clearly died in the movie :)

wyejon, as I says before in this thread: For many sequels of Hong Kong movies, their connection with their original are only their names, not their stories......
In US, if US distributor use this kind of "trick" to trap audience, people will be angry.
But in Hong Kong, not many angry will be angry with this kind of "trick", because so many Hong Kong distubitions had used this kind of "trick"....

Sory, some correction:
[ But in Hong Kong, not many people will be angry with this kind of "trick", because so many Hong Kong distubitions had used this kind of "trick".... ]

SPOILERS....
If I recall SHA PO LANG correctly, Simon Yam ends the movie badly injured but not dead, and Sammo is definitely alive at the end. Only Wu Jing seems pretty darn dead. But, like I said, I saw the movie a year ago.

What's the reason for the split between Sammo,Simon, Wujing and Donnie?

Grady, are you forgetting the end scene of Simon Yam at the beach? :)

Ah, you're right. Someone else reminded me of that too. Maybe he was taking a nap?
