SPIELBERG + ZHANG = INTERNET RUMOR

Zhangspierlberg Let's see how far this most slender of internet rumors can go. Will it be picked up by Entertainment Weekly? Will it be reproduced far and wide?

Producer Zhang Weiping says that Spielberg and Zhang have discussed shooting JOURNEY TO THE WEST together but that they'll have to wait until after their 2008 Olympic commitments in order to do so.

"Shooting JOURNEY TO THE WEST is just a plan," he says. "Everything has yet to be decided. We have been longing for a chance for them to co-direct a blockbuster. And Spielberg has shown his interest and intention to do so."

Let the cross-posting begin.

I'm more excited about whatever "directing" the Olympics means. Is Zhang directing the crazy Olympics opening ceremony? Or a documentary about the Olympics? Both? I don't think we've had a good Olympics documentary since Kon Ichikawa and Tokyo Olympiad.

This would be great news if it were true.
I love Journey to the West so much. It was some of my favorite bedtime reading. I've read "Monkey" at least three times. Channel 25 (21?) in NY ran a version of this introduced by this little old lady and I've rewatched an episode or two of it (after hating Jeffrey Chau's Chinese Oddysey 2; 1 was good but 2!?!?!) and while it's low-budget makes it more silly than I remembered, I still love the stories so much.

Man this better be true.
