13 BELOVED - BEST THAI OF THE YEAR?

Accolades are starting to pop up for a new Thai movie, of all things. These days I've come to assume a Thai film is going to be a waste of my time after seeing so many bad ones, but the very wise Wisekwai is lavishing praise on 13 BELOVED just released over there in the Land of Smiles. The director is a 25 year old with one other flick (EVIL) under his belt but the plot sounds wicked. A salaryman in Bangkok tries to make it to a 100 million baht jackpot by performing in an underground reality show that requires him to undertake 13 increasingly dangerous and humiliating stunts.
After the jump are two trailers for the film, and learn a little about director Chukiat Sakweerakul in this article.

Ah, I remember Evil now. It was also called Pisaj and featured a plot about young woman who goes to live with her creepy Indian mystic of an aunt after her parents were killed in the drug wars during the bad, old days of the Thaksin administration. With those elements, the movie had possibilities, but it resorted to a lot of running around and screaming. 13 Beloved is a huge improvement.

I have noticed since "Art Of The Devil2" there seems to be a number of Thai horrors on the horizon either in the cinemas or due on dvd soon. "Colic", "Mass Hysteria","The Victim" and finally although not sub-titled the violent "Scared" which i shall have a copy next week. The above trailer for 13 Beloved looks o.k.
but once again, looks a little too obvious which is a shame there is slight nod to "The Ring", and i guess once again i was hoping for something more original.
