I really doubt the jury's decision to award STILL LIFE was merely a political gesture or that BOBBY is more substantial. (Granted, I haven't seen either film.) Has Elley read any reviews of Jia's other films? The guy's got a pretty enthusiastic international critical following.

Steve, surely you're not suggesting that people might actually *like* a slow-paced, arty Chinese film? We all know any praise or awards such works get is just an effort by hoity-toity culture snobs to put one over on the masses. The Good Book (aka "Variety") tells us so!
