TRAILERS...NOTHING MORE THAN TRAILERS

TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER

As the release date for TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER approaches, Magnolia has posted their official page for TEARS, complete with trailer. I'm so excited to see this movie that I have a hard time staying in my pants, but this trailer has completely robbed me of my excitement. Little more than a bunch of clips strung together, and waaay too long, it's hard to believe someone could take such a visually exciting movie with such an amazing back story and turn it into this pile of blah.

On the other hand, check out the Japanese trailer for ELECTION. A sharp-eyed reader sent it in and I've already watched it twice. This is what a trailer should look like.

But the Japanese have lots of experience with things like this. Check out MANDOM, a 70's TV ad Charles Bronson did in Japan and prepare to feel the top of your skull lift off and your brain hover out and zoom around the room.

(Thanks to the KineJapan mailing list for the Mandom trailer)

WTF? How do you cut a bad trailer for Tears of the Black Tiger? I hope their print is in better shape color-wise than the one used for the trailer. Maybe they want to lose money on this release for tax purposes?

DAMN! That ELECTION trailer reminded me how much I love ELECTION. Thanks for sharing.

Hmmm. I don't want to see the naysayer here, but having never seen a trailer for said film, but having heard all the raves about it, I have to say that that looked pretty great! I mean, if that was a bad representation of said film, you've pretty much sold me on the fact that this is a must-see. Anyone got a link to one of the 'good' trailers?

not wanting to make any "the japanese are odd with their language and foreign words" jibes, but the title almost seems to say 'erection' for to's 'election's release in japan, doesn't it?!

I haven't seen a good story for TEARS, but I was bummed that Magnolia's trailer was nothing more than clips strung together with music. There are so many things they could have done with it.

Watching the Tears trailer reminded me of the movie that the characters in "Last Life in the Universe" were watching. Is it possible that those sort Thai spaghetti westerns were once very popular? (Probably during the time of adolescence for both Ratanuarang and Sasanatieng?)

Just speculating.

I don't think they cut this trailer. It's almost exactly the same as a tai trailer I saw over a year ago when I first heard of the film.
