Simon Yam is on the cover of Cahiers du Cinema So the Brits didn't like ELECTION, and Tartan won't release ELECTION in the US (instead releasing ELECTION 2 only and calling it TRIAD ELECTION) but the French have made a living of appreciating the fine things like Euro Disney and they really appreciate ELECTION 1 and 2. Look at this snazzy trailer they've cooked up for it. If you read French, cast your eye over these glowing reviews. Look at all those stars! These are more stars for the movie than BATTLE ROYALE or A BITTERSWEET LIFE. Sacre bleu!

ELECTION opened in France yesterday. ELECTION 2 opens on January 10. The reviews are good. The trailer is good. Simon Yam is on the cover of Cahiers du Cinema. Frankly, I smell a big pile of francs.

(Thanks to the sharp-eyed reader who braves the complicated grammar and pronunciation of the French language to put together all this news)

This is cool but there is only 6 copies for the WHOLE country ! And it's only for PARIS (what there's others cities in France ?).

You'll smell a big pile of euros when it'll be released in dvd :D
Hard times for french !

However, ELECTION still have strong opening in its very limited release in France.

In its first showings in Paris , ELECTION got 451 audience from 6 theaters in Paris!

ELECTION's result is very respectable for Asian movie: In its first showings in Paris , THE HOST got 753 audience from 17 theaters of Paris in its first showings in Paris. Futhermore, LADY VENGEANCE got 321 audience from 8 theaters of Paris in its first showings in Paris.

Yep, you got a point. But still, why only 6 copies for a movie selected at the Cannes Festival ? Election is hit bomb and only 10% is used by the distributors ! Weird ?! No, an asian (HK) flick. I guess, it's everywhere the same "problem" ?

In many countries, ELECTION just goes straight-to-DVD.

Yes, 6 copies for ELECTION showing that ARP Selection didn't have faith on this movie. However, the Paris opening result of ELECTION is apparently better-than-expected. With the stronger-than-expected support from press and movie reviewers, I think ARP Selection will expand this movie on more theaters in the future.

Johnny To is such a hit in France, they're loaning out Delon to him. How's that project coming along, by the way?
